Miracle Worker

Helen Keller, born blind and deaf, was a child trapped in a silent, isolated world until Annie Sullivan, a young Irish girl who was also blind, became her teacher. Set in the South in the 1880s, the play delves into the intense, often turbulent relationship between the lonely, courageous teacher and her reluctant, bitter student who grew up to be a beacon of hope for generations of people with disabilities. The work has been called "the most successful and warmly admired plays of the modern stage." The N.Y. Post called it "interesting, absorbing and moving."

Director's Notes

"Miracle Worker" is about the moment that we all dream: when we tear up unexpectedly because something we've just seen or heard ignites our deepest desires of accomplishment. This play is often mistaken for the story of Helen Keller. It is not. This is a period in the life of Anne Sullivan. She could have never known that a baby's illness, hundreds of miles away, would change her life forever and direct her future steps. All plays, whether based on fact or fiction, have a covert meaning. It is up to the individual to draw what they will from this look at a few short weeks in one young woman's life. When you come to the show look around, there are miracle workers in your presence.

Madeline Barr Helen

Maddie is thrilled to be part of such a wonderful production! Favorite past roles include: Helena in "A Midsummers Night Dream", and Marta in the "The Sound of Music". Maddie would like to thank Eric, her family, her theater teachers at DSA, Nancy Goodwin, all her supporting friends, and many others. She very much hopes you'll enjoy the show.

Mark R Barr Doc and Doctor Anagnos

Mark's main contribution to this production is biological. Whatever you think of his own performance, he remains the father of Madeline Barr. His last appearance on stage is now seventeen years, 2,300 miles, 31 pounds, and 3 Bush terms in the past.

Eric Dellinger Director

Eric has been in theater for as long as he can remember. At 3 he played a hobo in his church’s Christmas play and the bug bit him. Since then it's been everything from Greek pimps to Klan preachers. "If there is one thing that I know, theater has opened my mind to viewing the world in a very objective manner," he says. "Whether on or in front of the stage this art has been a powerful force in my life. I look forward to many more years." He has appeared in Evergreen Players' "Judevine" and "The Foreigner."

Michael Dyer Percy

Michael is in fifth grade at Devinny Elementary School and is a member of the Evergreen Children's Chorale. He was previously in 'Inherit the Wind' with the Evergreen Players and was most recently in 'The Music Man' with the Evergreen Chorale. In addition to acting and singing, Michael plays the piano and clarinet and enjoys computers. He is thrilled to be performing with the Players again.

Lyndsay Giraldi Anne

Lyndsay is thrilled and very honored to be portraying Anne Sullivan with the Evergreen Players for the first time. She was last seen in Phamaly’s production of "Guys and Dolls", portraying Sarah Brown. Lyndsay attends Metro State and is working on an Education and Theater degree. She thanks her family – "I love you!" and Josh for his support and love. A special thanks to Eric for giving her the opportunity to play a heroine whom she admires. Thanks, too, to Lucy who is the "miracle" in her life.

Lisa Kraai Kate

Lisa studied theater in Northwestern. By day, she is a legal secretary and full time mom! Some of Lisa’s favorite acting credits in the Evergreen, Denver and surrounding areas include: Hermia in "A Mid Summer Night's Dream", Tansy in "The Nerd", Annelle in "Steele Magnolias", Laura Cate in "Judevine", Roz in "Moon Over Buffalo", Ophelia in "Fortinbras", Sorel in "Hay Fever" and CCTC/AACT award winning shows, "Eleemosynary", "The Dining Room", "Lovers:Winners", for which she won Best Actress at Nationals and performed in Heidelberg, Germany. Most recently she performed in Evergreen Players' "The Trip to Bountiful," winning Best Actress at the 2003 Colorado Community Theatre Coalition festival.

Len Matheo Captain Keller

Len comes to Colorado via Taos, N.M., via New York City where he started his acting career playing in many off-Broadway and off-off Broadway productions. Some of Len’s favorite roles include: Greg in “Sylvia,” Cliff in “Cabaret,” Joe Sharp in the U.S. premiere of “The Hired Man” at New York’s 47th Street Theater, Felix in Horton Foote’s “Blind Date” at the T.S. Schreiber Studio Theater, as well as many other roles in regional theater. Len dedicates his performance to the love of his life, Lisa DeCaro, who makes everything in his life joyous and a whole lot better.

Stephanie Lynn Prugh Aunt Ev

Stephanie is pleased to be working with the Evergreen Players again. She was last seen as Rachel Brown in "Inherit the Wind". She is a student at University of Colorado at Denver where she is working towards a B.A. in theater. She would like to thank Eric for the challenge, the family and the girls.

Melanie Ralph Martha

Melanie Ralph is currently a sixth grader at Denver School of the Arts, majoring in theater. She has been acting since age seven at the Arvada Center and the Aurora Fox. This is her first show with the Evergreen Players. In her spare time Melanie is a dancer, a singer, and a Girl Scout. She is very pleased to be working with the Players and wants to work with them again soon.

Matt Walker James

This is Matt’s first role with Evergreen Players and he couldn’t be more excited. You might have seen him in such Chatfield High School productions as "The Importance of Being Ernest", "Damn Yankees", "Kiss Me, Kate" and more. The experience has been amazing. Women of the audience, Matt would also like you to know he’s single.

Linda Williams Viney

Linda began her acting career playing the title role in "Sleeping Beauty," during which she went screaming off stage when the prince tried to kiss her. She was four. She has since overcome her stage fright, and some of her favorite roles include Daisy in "Biloxi Blues," Maggie in "Lend Me a Tenor," and Mrs. Mandelbaum in "Crossing Delancey." 2005 marks Linda's second year as a resident of beautiful Colorado.
