The Cripple of Inishmaan

Martin Mc Donagh

A Hollywood documentary film crew arrives in a small island community off the western coast of Ireland circa 1934. In a world where boredom takes on an existential quality, this bitingly funny dark comedy follows the struggle of an outcast who gets his chance to vie for a part in the film.

Directed by David Blumenstock .

Performance dates: October 22 - November 14, 2010.

Rehearsal dates: Rehearsals will begin after Labor Day with dates TBA.

Audition Details

Auditions will be held at Center/Stage, Evergreen (directions), on Saturday July 31st, at 9:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.. To make and audition appointment please email your resume and headshot to
ProductionMgr@evergreenplayers.org
and we'll get back to you with an appointment time.

It would be helpful if you could bring the following:

  • Copy of your Resume
  • Headshot
  • Dates of your prior commitments

The audition will consist of readings from the script, so please be familiar with it. Please note that all roles require the ability to speak with an Irish accent.

Here are a couple of links to info about the dialect we're going for on this show, which is the Connacht dialect. Obviously, we're not looking for folks to speak Gaelic! The Wikipedia link is a bit technical, but the videos below help a ton. We want the essence of this dialect, but we need to make sure it's understandable as well.

Aran Islander "speech":

While these links are helpful for getting a handle on the Connacht dialect of the Aran Islands, for the audition, we're far more concerned with the auditioner's overall ability to maintain a consistent Irish accent of some kind rather than getting that specific dialect correct. Reason being that that dialect could prove to be difficult for US audiences to understand.
